The Good
Happy Data Privacy Day!
While 72% of Americans say they don’t understand how their data is protected, you and I know better, and many places in America are beginning to take action. Comprehensive privacy legislation was considered in 25 states last year, and California is the first state to introduce privacy regulations on AI.
The Bad
I conducted a statistical analysis, aided by AI, to assess comprehension levels of data privacy from the unedited 2018 Facebook: Transparency and Use of Consumer Data hearing. The scale ranged from 0% (no understanding) to 100% (full expertise). Results showed Mark Zuckerberg at 90% comprehension, while the questioning committee averaged 70%, highlighting a notable knowledge gap.
The Ugly
Have you heard of the MOAB (Mother of All Breaches) leak? This database of 26 billion records is the largest data leak in history, and no perpetrator has been identified yet.
Something to think about
Considering the significant knowledge gap between tech CEOs and government officials, and the even wider divide between the general public and regulators…
Should politicians be judged on how well they understand technology issues that impact our lives?
