The Data Download: 30 Breakthrough Technologies & The Privacy Showdown

Sent by Joshua Katris  |  February 11, 2024

The Good

Gartner announced the 30 emerging technologies that will guide your business decisions, and they break down into 4 themes. Smart World Innovations - that impact how we interact with everything around us. Productivity Enhancements - basically generative AI, etc. Privacy & Transparency - ethical choices for businesses based on customer experience. And Critical Enablers - the things that open doors to even faster innovation.

The Bad

A decay in the quality of existing social media platforms is already pushing consumers to reduce the time they spend on them. This drop in virtual “foot traffic” will have a decrease of 50% in organic traffic as consumers adopt AI powered search tools that work for them.

The Ugly

Temu faces class-action lawsuits in Illinois and New York over data privacy concerns, with allegations of violating customer privacy through "deceptive" practices, including using malware and spyware in its app. Temu denies the claims, maintaining its privacy practices meet industry standards. However, the BBB (Better Business Bureau) only gives them a C+ rating.

Something to think about

Many organizations like “Consumer Reports” and the “BBB” were initially created to inform and protect consumers. However, these organizations have fallen so far behind in the technology race that most people don’t even think about them as an option when an experience goes awry.

Do you think these institutionalized organizations will be relevant in the future?
