The Good

A new white paper titled “Rethinking Privacy in the AI Era” released by Stanford University’s HAI (Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence) suggests that policymakers should support new mechanisms and infrastructure that support and automate an individuals data rights and preferences. This would essentially flip the script on how personal data is created and managed.

The Bad

Widely accepted privacy rules that try to guide how artificial intelligence (AI) is developed are not enough to fully handle the competition over gathering data and the privacy issues that arise, both for individuals and society as a whole.

Something to think about

Managing data is a tedious job. If we had complete control over who could access our personal information, how many of us would put in the work required to make sure it was in the right hands?

Do you think this is something you would do yourself? Or would you outsource this to someone else?
