The Data Download: Your personal data is a concern for national security

The Good

On February 28, 2024, the White House issued an Executive Order saying, “Hands off our Data!” The Order amplifies a trending position that the data of American citizens and national security are directly related.

The Bad

The same Executive Order issued by the White House omits any real, immediate legal obligations for any company.

The Ugly

Fidelity Investments Life Insurance notified ~28,000 individuals of a data breach at Infosys McCamish Systems, impacting personal information like SSNs and bank details.

Something to think about

The idea of sensitive data stems from our right to privacy, but privacy can mean different things to different people. Ultimately "sensitive" can be distilled down to any information that, if disclosed, could result in harm to the individual creating it.
